Every kind of advisor is called a consultant. They provide a client with Consultation Services. A consultant is responsible for advising the client and for providing new working ideas under a given condition. In other words, a consultant is an expert who charges a fee for providing advice or services in a specific field. Therefore in retrospect anyone with a higher than average knowledge in a specific field or discipline can become a Consultant. An expert in a particular field from, engineering, financial, medical, marketing, travel, legal, computers, management, personnel management etc.

The business aspect and agreement between the Consultant and client will be an independent contract drawn to provide consulting services. In today’s market including the wide reach of the Internet, consultants have been flooding the airwaves. The competition is fierce; the clients have become more selective and require a proven track record. The ability to promote and market previous projects the more competitive the consultant will become.

Different consultants have different types of duties. For example

  • If you are an Educational Consultant then your duty is to present workshops to educators, government departments and corporate bodies to assist with thinking strategies for the classroom, staff meetings, and staff planning days, team teaching, and seminars.

  • If you are an Accounting Consultant, then your main duty is to explain the correctness and consistency of a client’s final account. You must see the International Accounting standards Board’s published consultation paper on profit and loss account and balance sheet. Therefore, that final account can be adhered to under International accounting standard.

  • If you are an Environmental Consultant then your main duty is to provide high ecological reports and quality surveys. • A Human Resource Consultant provides human resources to small to mid-sized organizations. They help analysis and implement the HRIS systems, benefits programs analysis recommendations, Human Rights violations investigations including sexual harassment, employee coaching and development programs and much more.
Consulting has a wide variety of fields in which to choose from. Depending on the career path one chooses, needless to say they vary from computers, management, legal, finance, accounting, marketing, and personnel management and much more. It has become a career path many retired professionals have chosen due to their time in an industry. For example an attorney that has been practicing law for 30 years would be a fantastic consultant due to his vast experience. The attorney will command an hourly wage that can vary from $300-$600 per hour. Or work exclusively for one client or company on a monthly retainer. In conclusion the more experience a Consultant can offer the higher the profits made.
