Learning Disabilities Consultant
There are children born every day in this country with a learning disability. This unfortunate situation is hard for families and child alike. A child with a learning disability cannot learn at a standard pace as a normal child. Often they are shunned by their classmates or worst yet, not allowed to attend a public learning institutions. In fact, often a child with a learning disability will not form coherent speech patterns or learn how to read or write through normal processes. It can be emotionally and financially devastating for families, however, there is help. A Learning Disabilities Consultant is there to provide guidance and support for families by teaching them how to overcome the obstacles they are facing.
As a consultant in this field their evaluation of the child can offer an alternative solution, include speed the process to a healthier state of being. Whether analyzing or proposing various learned successful methods for the parents to try at home, or suggest alternative schools that can prepare the child to enter in our society. These are a few options an experienced candidate can offer. From obtaining medical records, to assessing the psychological strengths of the child to creating a complete profile are a few of the steps required as the professional. By assessing, observing, learning behaviors any disability that becomes apparent to the Consultant will make way to better serving the needs of the child. Through years of education and formal training they can analyze previous history along with behavior patterns in order to make the required and often arduous clinical assessments.
Many alternatives exist for children with a learning disability. From special institutions that provide medical and psychological assistance to the child or new ground breaking programs available today; children learn to live with their learning disability including thrive. It’s no surprise that a qualified consultant can become emotionally involved with families and children, however, their desire to relieve and assist families allows them to become objective while guiding families in unknown territories. Getting started as a Learning Disability Consulting a 4-year degree in Special Education is required. Most companies and institutions will require a Master’s degree due to the influx of qualified applicants. As a Special Learning Disabilities Consultant it is not unusual to work on a project basis. The fees per child can range from $100 per hour or $1500 per child. However, problem solving skills and a level of thinking that is out of the box won’t come from education alone.
A successful work history with awards and recognition given for projects can advance careers. If a Consultant has interest in different disciplines along with a few years experience in another field this will be apparent after the initial interview process. In conclusion a base salary of $40,000 - $60,000 is not unheard as a starting gauge however, being well versed in federal state and local assistance available requires years of hands on training. A seasoned Consultant can command salaries ranging from $125,000 in the major metropolitan cities to $110,000 in Butte Montana.
