Consultant Integration
Sometime during your tenure at either someone else's or even your own company, you may find that it is necessary to hire a team of consultants. Why you would do this is totally up to you. You could have any number of reasons. Perhaps your current staff just doesn't have the skills necessary, or maybe your company needs to learn a few new things. Either way, the underlying reason is that both the employees in your company or you yourself just cannot do the job you have set out to do, and something needs to be done immediately.
When this happens, it's time to call on those who have consulting jobs to help you and your company gets on the right track. Sometimes you might not want to admit it, but everyone that needs a consultant will come to this ultimate realization. The thing to remember though is that it's not you that's going to be the real problem when this happens.
The biggest problem when you call those with consulting jobs in, is your own employees. Yes, your employees might be a little put off when you call in those with consultant careers to help them do your jobs, but remember that it is your job to avoid any potential conflicts in the workplace. The process for doing so is actually pretty simple.
You need to get together with your employees first of all. They are the most important thing that you will need to deal with in this matter. The important thing here is to not beat around the bush. If you are bluntly honest with your employees they are bound to respect you more, so go over their flaws, tell them where they need to improve, and explain why those who have consultant jobs are coming in to help them. Make sure that they know you don't think less of them, and that you simply want the company to do the best and be the best that it possibly can.
This isn't a bad thing, it really isn't. Just make sure that when the consultant team arrives they are well versed with company policy when doing their consulting jobs. Just because they have consultant careers doesn't mean that they should be able to do as they please. When your employees see that the consultants are being held to the same standards as normal employees, they will be much more comfortable with this integration.
Make sure that you intervene in any possible conflicts. Conflict between employees and consultants are bound to come up, and you need to do your best to make sure that you jump in and find out the problem before it grows into a real issue. No one ever said that it would be easy, but this is what you have to deal with when you are in charge and dealing with integrating consulting jobs with the everyday jobs.
Do what you can and make sure that everything runs smoothly. Overall, make sure that you hire good consultants. Check their credentials and see to it that they know exactly what they're talking about. Degrees and certifications will mean nothing, if there isn't knowledge backing it up! So get to it right now and find the right consultants for both you and your company.

One of the most interesting things to me is witnessing people when they make a complete reversal in their lives and overnight become incredibly successful, happy, and fulfilled people. Perhaps the reason this is so fascinating is that it happens so rarely.
