With the economy being in the condition that it is, many people are very wary about jumping into the consulting field. They are worried that companies will not want to bring on outsiders or contract workers, but the truth is that the opposite is true! More and more companies are realizing that there is a lot of good that a consultant can do for them and they are looking hard for the good ones. Do you think that you have what it takes to be a good consultant? Chances are good that you do, even if you don't know it yet. If you have been working in your field for a while, then you have the knowledge and the expertise to share. So take a moment to consider some of the trends that we are seeing in consulting jobs.

The first thing that you should be aware of is the fact that there are plenty of companies out there that are hiring consultants with an eye towards being more ecologically friendly. As the energy crisis drags on and on with no sign of relief in sight, companies are becoming excruciatingly aware of not only their own operating costs, but of how it looks in the news and to their clients if they behave in an ecologically irresponsible matter. Whether you are an expert in work place eco-compliance or you are simply an efficiency expert who is looking to help businesses operate in a more green fashion, your chances for getting yourself a good position are pretty bright.

Also, keep in mind that consultation does not necessarily mean that you are looking at businesses. As the baby boomer generation gets ready to experience another broad change of life, they are feeling as though they need some guidance in it, and you never know when the experience that they need is going to be yours! You are looking at a very large group of people who all have money to spend and the urge to spend it. If you can show them how to make the most of their time, whether you are looking at improving their efficiency, bettering their day-to-day life or doing something like planning their vacation for them, you are looking at good business.

Speaking of businesses, how often have you worked with small businesses? What a lot of consultants are realizing is that small businesses are as willing to pay for consulting as large businesses. If you know what you are doing and if you can address the troubles and unique issues that are faced by small businesses, you can bet that they are going to want to hear from you. Remember that they are struggling and that they have fluid assets that they will be willing to tap for you. What can you do to help them and what kind of information do they have that you need?

Where do you feel that you are at when it comes to consulting? What kind of work are you interested in doing and how do you want to do it? More and more people are interested in consulting and the truth is now is a great time to get involved, if only you know what the hot trends are!
